Pricing: I price my services on a per-word basis, also taking into consideration your turnaround time. Typically, a one-page paper, according to the Editorial Freelancers Association, is 250 words. I prefer to charge by word count, which is $0.02 per word, rather than an hourly rate. I follow the EFA rate chart, so if there are any changes, you will know before the job begins. It makes it easier for you to know exactly what your cost will be, and there is no guesswork!

How I work: Please email or use the contact form to discuss your job. I will acknowledge your email and confirm the pricing of your job. Together, we will confirm when your deadline is so there is no worry on your part.

I offer services across multiple time zones, which means it is paramount that we communicate as soon as you are ready to contract my services. I want to be ready to confirm receipt of your work during waking hours and begin your project as soon as possible to meet your needs.

Transcripts longer than 150 pages may require an extended turnaround time depending on availability, however I can help you by accepting 50 pages at a time. Please contact me via text, email, or the contact page to verify availability. Once we discuss your project, I will give you a proposed completion date. My goal at Melanie Sue Proofreading is to represent my time honestly & always meet or beat your deadline.

Programs used: Using MS Word track changes allows you to view changes made by multiple people on the same document. When we talk about editing a manuscript on Word, we can expect multiple people to work on it multiple times (author, copyeditor, proofreader). An editor or proofreader typically “accepts all changes in a document” once the author has reviewed and approved it. Don’t worry, I am flexible and can work with you in other ways if it is easier for you.

Billing: New clients – I will bill half immediately and the last half after job completion. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice. I ask that new clients fulfill their first two invoices before we make payment agreements for future projects. Regular clients– Invoices generate on the 15th of the month. Payment is due within 15 days. Late payments will incur a 10% late fee.

Payment: I accept payment to Melanie Sue Proofreading through credit/debit card, ACH transfer, and Zelle.
